What IS chair-based exercise?
Chair-based exercise is an inclusive and accessible form of exercise for EVERYONE. There are a wide variety of chair-based exercises that are great for musculoskeletal health, including aerobic exercise to improve or maintain cardiovascular health and strength and body weight training to help maintain or increase bone density, flexibility and muscle tone.
Rule One: Use a strong chair (not too soft) - when you sit, your thighs should be parrallel to the floor.
Rule Two: Keep your movements steady. When starting out move your arms and legs one at a time. In no time you will be combining movements.
Rule Three: Warm up and cool down. Start off slow and build up.
Testimonials
"As someone who was diagnosed with arthritis at a young age, I know firsthand how important it is to break the stigma around musculoskeletal conditions."

Get to know your body and what you can handle, find people in similar situations and ask them as many questions as you can, and then be that person for someone else. We are all in this together and shouldn’t feel alone!

MHA has provided me with a community. Through MHA I have met other people like me, people who have had their conditions from a young age, who know exactly what it feels like to wake up every morning not knowing how much pain you’ll be in, or how much function you’ll have.

I hope sharing my story can inspire others living with similar conditions to keep looking forward and making the most of every moment.

Chronic pain and exhaustion are the most debilitating factors. I have some mobility issues that flare and have had to give up activities I loved – like kite surfing and skiing.
